About the event

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. - make sure to check in early to take pictures at the step and repeat! Come early for drinks and popcorn (included in your ticket)!

The screening begins at 8:00 p.m., followed by a dessert reception in the SVA Theatre lobby.

Come see the five films made as part of the Moonshot Film Challenge: A Nice Place to Visit, Life Begins, New World Orioles, Out of Time, and The Swipe.

In the film challenge, accepted participants are placed on crews of strangers and work with women and gender-expansive filmmakers in every role of production. We provide cinema-quality equipment courtesy of our sponsors, production insurance, waivers to submit to film fests, and more!

The films made during our past film challenges have been accepted into over 100 film festivals. More importantly, past participants' careers accelerate after this program due to the connections they make during the challenge.

During this year's challenge we had five teams: Team Gina, Team Celine, Team Patricia, Team Mira, and Team Emerald - each named for a female or gender-expansive filmmaker. The genre for each team's film was determined by pulling genres out of a hat. Once they had their assigned genre, each team hit the ground running to write, shoot, and edit a film over just two weekends!

The result is five amazing films that you can see at this screening!

At this year’s premiere screening, we will be presenting the alumni award to Elaine Del Valle, who directed “All is Well,” one of the 6 short films made as part of our 2022 Moonshot Film Challenge!

As part of the event, we’ll be screening “All is Well,” the Moonshot Film Challenge film that led to Elaine’s first feature directing job! An executive producer from MarVista Entertainment saw “All is Well” at a film festival and was so impressed at what Elaine and the rest of the crew had created under such tight constraints. They needed directors who could move fast, work smart, and deliver — and Elaine had proven that with “All is Well.” It led to Elaine directing the Tubi Original “Midnight Hustle”!

Most recently, Elaine’s feature “Brownsville Bred” was officially named on  the Academy’s Best Picture eligibility list, putting this powerful indie in the same conversation as major studio releases. You can watch the Oscar-eligible “Brownsville Bred” on demand on Apple TV or Prime.
