Come see the five films made as part of the Moonshot Film Challenge: A Nice Place to Visit, Life Begins, New World Orioles, Out of Time, and The Swipe.
In the film challenge, accepted participants are placed on crews of strangers and work with women and gender-expansive filmmakers in every role of production. We provide cinema-quality equipment courtesy of our sponsors, production insurance, waivers to submit to film fests, and more!
The films made during our past film challenges have been accepted into over 100 film festivals. More importantly, past participants' careers accelerate after this program due to the connections they make during the challenge.
During this year's challenge we had five teams: Team Gina, Team Celine, Team Patricia, Team Mira, and Team Emerald - each named for a female or gender-expansive filmmaker. The genre for each team's film was determined by pulling genres out of a hat. Once they had their assigned genre, each team hit the ground running to write, shoot, and edit a film over just two weekends!
The result is five amazing films that you can see at this screening!
We will also be screening a sneak preview of the film How To Use The Bathroom, written, directed, and starring Lex Powell, a Moonshot Film Challenge participant!
Here's what Lex has to say about how the Moonshot Film Challenge inspired them to create this film:
"Someone recently told me their film career was the result of a million tiny fires, that you never know which one will be the one that catches. OK, so the Everybody Hurts table read lit up the fire-reminder that things don’t have to be perfect to share them, or for people to take meaning from them. Then, I participated in the Moonshot Film Challenge, where I was teamed up with a group of women and gender expansive strangers to make a short over a weekend, and this fire burned away some of my internalized blocks about what’s possible inside of limitations. And the most recent fire came from following a bunch of FilmStack folks who have inspired me to join in the NonDē (nondependent) film movement - which I didn’t know I was basically already doing, because no one’s trying to open the Hollywood gates for me anyway. But I might as well stop complaining about it and JUST MAKE SOMETHING."
We will be raffling off a $25 gift card to Rough Draft Bar & Books!
**If you are coming in from NYC, there is a Trailways bus that goes to Rosendale.
Thank you to HUDSY, NYSCA, the Artists Thrive, and the Amplify Her Foundation for making this year's Moonshot Film Challenge possible.
