Why We're Backing Vacationland
Maine is nicknamed Vacationland. But most people only know the postcard version.
Jane West knows the other side. The one that exists year-round in ski towns that go quiet after the tourists leave — where the economy is unstable, the winters are long, and the opioid crisis has hollowed out families and communities with very little fanfare and almost no media attention. Vacationland is set in 2006, but the story it tells is happening right now. Maine consistently reports higher-than-average overdose rates, and as federal funding for harm reduction disappears, the need for stories that put a human face on this crisis has never been more urgent.
At the center of the film is Corinne, a single mother in recovery whose estranged brother stumbles back into her life and threatens to pull everything she has built back under. She is flawed, complicated, and deeply real — exactly the kind of woman who rarely gets to be the protagonist of her own story.
The team behind Vacationland is as strong as the material. Writer and producer Jane West brings a Mainer's specificity to every detail. She is also playing the lead, Corrine. Director Lucy Moroukian produced Dinner in America at Sundance. Producer Freyja Golbach's credits include the Oscar-nominated Rustin and Taylor Sheridan's Lioness. Tony-nominated actress Emily Skeggs — who broke out in that same Dinner in America — will be playing the supporting role of Liz.

Meet The Team
Jane West, Executive Producer/Writer and Actor
Jane West is a classically-trained actress and daughter of a Maine native. She grew up performing in Maine summer stock barn theaters before moving to New York to attend the Tisch School of the Arts and pursue acting full time. Recent credits include Blood on the Bridge for Fox and the Revolutionary War feature film Loyalists. As writer of Vacationland, Jane pulled from memory, experience, and personal stories from her time spent as a child in western Maine. Jane will also bring her deeply grounded and authentic style of performance to the role of Corinne.
Lucy Moroukian, Director
Lucy Moroukian is a Minneapolis based filmmaker, 35mm photographer, and educator whose work explores the emotional resonance of place and the quiet power of analog storytelling. As a producer on Dinner in America (Dir Adam Rehmeier, Sundance 2020), she helped shape a film that has since earned cult-classic status. Her photography practice centers on documentary narratives that embody space, memory, and the lived experience of everyday people.
Matthew Canada, Director of Photography
Matthew Canada is an award-winning cinematographer known for a visual style that blends narrative depth with commercial precision. His work has taken him from the streets of China to his home base of New York City, collaborating with top-tier directors to craft immersive cinematic experiences.
With an unconventional background in jazz theory and marketing, Matthew brings a rhythmic sensibility and a strategic eye to every frame. Since 2008, he has transitioned from the high-energy world of music videos into a prolific career spanning feature films and global ad campaigns.

Freyja Golbach, Producer
Freyja Golbach has been a costumer with IATSE Local 487 since 2021 and recently, Freyja was chosen to lead her union’s northern region chapter of the Young Workers Committee based on her work leading the charge to bring film work back to her current home state of Maryland.
Her most notable credits include the Oscar-nominated film Rustin (2023), Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed series Lioness, and HBO’s White House Plumbers. She has costume designed several independent films and is now coordinating and assistant directing. Freyja is passionate about ensuring that independent films have a place in media and that upcoming artists are supported in their endeavors in film production.
Emily Skeggs, Actor
Emily Skeggs is a Tony-nominated actress from New York City who now calls LA home. After performing in numerous off-broadway plays and musicals as a teenager, she joined the original Broadway cast of Fun Home as Medium Alison for which she was nominated for Best Featured Actress in 2015. Other notable credits include Love You to Death with Marcia Gay Harden, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, and the Sundance breakout Dinner in America which rocketed to cult-classic status when her original song "Watermelon" went viral. Emily will be playing the role of Liz, a deeply nuanced character who serves as an empathetic anchor in this story.
