Moonshot Initiative co-founders Katrina Medoff and Tracy Sayre were interviewed on 'Good Day LA' about our first Los Angeles film challenge
Four years ago today, Araksya Karapetyan interviewed our co-founders, Katrina Medoff and Tracy Sayre, as they launched their groundbreaking film challenge in Los Angeles.
At the time of the interview, our participants had just finished writing, shooting, and editing a short film as part of Women's Weekend Film Challenge the previous weekend. These participants were strangers when they met for the first time at our pre-production meeting — but by the time they put the finishing touches on their short films after a weekend of intense collaboration, they had become friends and trusted teammates.
Our participants were over the moon to have the film challenge highlighted on the morning news and to see clips from their sets and films live on television.
Soon after, the six films made during the 2020 Los Angeles Women's Weekend Film Challenge premiered at ArcLight Hollywood — one of the last screenings at the venue before it shuttered its doors due to the pandemic.
Four years later, these women and non-binary filmmakers in every role of production are continuing to hire, refer, and collaborate with the people they met during the challenge.
Take a look back at our interview, which aired live on Good Day LA on Feb. 28, 2020.

ABOUT ARAKSYA KARAPETYAN
Araksya Karapetyan co-anchors Good Day LA from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on FOX 11 and co-hosts GDLA+ on FOX 11 Plus at 11 a.m. alongside Sandra Endo. She joined the FOX 11 team in March of 2012. AÂ native of Armenia, Karapetyan moved to the U.S. when she was seven years old. A devastating earthquake, a brewing conflict with Azerbaijan, and the demise of the Soviet Union all contributed to her family's decision to leave their homeland. She grew up in Palos Verdes Estates. Karapetyan worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in host at KOIN-TV in Portland, Oregon. Prior to that, she was a reporter, anchor, and producer at KIDK-TV in Idaho Falls. Karapetyan began her television career as an intern at KABC-TV in Los Angeles and KFI 640 AM radio in Burbank. Her interest in journalism sparked when she went back for a summer visit to Armenia. She decided to spend her time there not by being a tourist, but by exploring to see what everyday life was like for the majority. Karapetyan has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations and Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
