How to Pitch Your Project

Moonshot Initiative's How to Pitch Your Project course returns this September!

Here is what 2024 participants had to say about their experience in the course:

  • "I was surprised at how much I learned and how much my pitch improved in such a short course!"

  • "Moonshot Initiative’s How to Pitch Your Project is the perfect way to create a concise pitch explaining all of the necessary details you’ll need, not only for executives, but also to peers and friends. In just one month, I formed an elevator pitch and a 5-minute pitch that helped me hone in on my main characters, theme and overall “sell” of the story. I also gained confidence from this course as I had to practice my pitch several times for the final day, making me more comfortable with pitching, and ultimately, enjoying the process. I recommend this to anyone who is still writing their scripts and those with completed scripts. It was truly helpful and I will use these tips and knowledge for the rest of my career. Thank you Katrina and Tracy!"

Want to develop your pitching skills so that when an opportunity arises to share your project with decision-makers, you’re ready for it?

As a creative, you’ve poured your time and talents into your project. But to get your concept to the next stage, you’ll need to be able to speak about it in a way that gets execs, representatives, and writing development labs as excited about your idea as you are.

How to Pitch Your Project course participants will attend three virtual classes, during which Moonshot Initiative co-founder Katrina will give feedback on participants’ verbal pitches. Participants may volunteer to share their 30-second or 5-minute pitches as an example for the class, and we’ll give feedback to as many participants as possible so that everyone can learn from a wide array of examples.

You’ll also have the opportunity to hear examples of polished pitches from our past Pilot Accelerator fellows — pitches that prompted execs at companies like HBO, Netflix, Hulu and Showtime to request to read their full scripts and to have follow-up meetings.

Plus, we’ll pair you up with your classmates so that you can practice and get comfortable pitching outside of the virtual classroom.

Throughout the course, we’ll provide instructions for crafting a verbal pitch and an elevator pitch; tips for being an engaging speaker; do’s and don’ts for pitching; a guide for researching the companies and execs you’re pitching to; how to talk about yourself and your work; tips for general meetings; bonus materials; and more.

If you have a script or a ready-to-pitch idea for a feature or TV pilot, this course is for you!

Meetups will occur on:

Monday, Sept. 14, 8-9:30 p.m. ET

Wednesday, Sept. 23, 8-9:30 p.m. ET

Monday, Sept. 28, 8-9:30 p.m. ET
