We had our second Creative Resilience support meetup for filmmakers. Here are the key takeaways.

At our most recent Creative Resilience virtual meetup on February 5, guest moderators Aba and Brianna led the Moonshot community in a structured discussion with these three prompts:
What is a win you’ve had recently? No matter how small, take a moment to brag about yourself.
What is one challenge you’re facing right now?
What’s a piece of advice you would give to someone or are trying to practice yourself?
After this discussion, the moderators asked what insights stuck with people. These were the biggest takeaways:
Stay present. It’s easy to spiral about the future—where you’ll be next month, how you compare to others in different industries, or if you’re making enough progress financially or professionally. The challenge is to stay in the moment and find something to celebrate about today. It can calm your mind just a bit to bring your thoughts down to a micro level.
Do the work. No matter how small. If opportunities aren’t knocking, create them yourself. If no one is helping develop your script, pivot and start a blog. Keep creating in whatever way you can. Even showing up to this group was “doing the work” for an hour—making progress toward the larger goal of living as a creative.
You are not alone. When the industry slows down, it’s easy to feel isolated or ashamed. But keeping your struggles to yourself won’t help. Talk to people, take the shame out of it, and ask for support. Share your resume with friends, let them know you’re looking for work, and trust that community can help. Right now, so many of us are in fight-or-flight mode—leaning on each other makes it a little easier.
